The name of the monument: Kyzyltam Mausoleum.

Typological affiliation: Sacred object.

Dating of the monument: XVII century.

Location of the monument: Located   12.6 km south-west of the village of Kos-Estek, Kargalinsky district, Aktobe region. On the northwestern coast of the Kargalinsky reservoir.

Historical information: According to the notes of I.A.Kastagnier, at the beginning of the 20th century, the mausoleum had two domes on an arched base (trumpet). Also, the mausoleum was examined in 1984 by the Aktobe expedition of the Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments of the Kazakh SSR (headed by S. I. Azhigali). The Kyzyltam mausoleum is one of the rare burnt brick mausoleums that belongs to the north of the Aral-Caspian region and dates back to the late Middle Ages. According to the legend recorded by Ya. Ya. Polferov, the history of the creation of the Kyzyltam mausoleum is connected with the unsuccessful engagement of the Khiva Khan Arab-Muhamed with the daughter of the commander-in-chief of the Kalmyks Badmay. “The ambassadors of the former enemy Arab-Muhamed come with gifts to the commander-in-chief of the Kalmyks Badmai. Richly dressed ambassadors on horses bring gifts on 10 white camels. After the presentation of gifts and the holding of the games, the ambassadors report that that they had come to woo Badmay’s daughter Uila. However, Uylie had a lover. At night, when everyone fell asleep, Uyla met her beloved Zaisa on the top of the hill and talked about the matchmaking. Zaisa said that he would rather steal the bride. At this moment Badmai appears and a fight begins. The girl is trying to separate the fighting. However, the father kills the guy with a dagger. The girl refuses to marry another and dies, jumping from a cliff into the water. For two days until the bodies of Uili and Zaisa were pulled out of the water Badmay stood in the same place with a bloody dagger. A mausoleum appeared at the burial site of the lovers. Due to the fact that the burnt brick looks red from a distance, the mausoleum was nicknamed Kyzyltam. ” Zaisa said that he would rather steal the bride. ” A mausoleum appeared at the burial site of the lovers. Due to the fact that the burnt brick looks red from a distance, the mausoleum was nicknamed Kyzyltam. ” A mausoleum appeared at the burial site of the lovers. Due to the fact that the burnt brick looks red from a distance, the mausoleum was nicknamed Kyzyltam. “

Description and characteristics of the monument: The Kyzyltam mausoleum is sub-square in plan (6.05×6.05 m), similar in these parameters to the Kesene structure. Judging by the fixation by I.A.Kastagnier at the beginning of the 20th century, the mausoleum had a double dome on arched trumpets. It is likely that the outer dome was hipped, like the above mausoleums. The monument was built of baked bricks 24x24x5.5-6 cm in size (just like at the Abat-Baytak mausoleum). At present, the north-north-west wall of the quadrangle and adjacent sections of the walls have been preserved. In the northwest corner of the interior, the heels of the tromp sails have been preserved. The highest preserved height of the monument is 3.75 m.
