Memorial Complex Dedicated to Hero of the Soviet Union A. Moldagulova

Historical background: Aliya Nurmukhamedovna Moldagulova was a Hero of the Soviet Union and one of the most renowned Kazakh heroines of the Second World War. She was born on June 15, 1925, in Bulak village, Kobda District, Aktobe Region. During the war she served as a sniper and distinguished herself by courage and dedication in combat. On June 4, 1944, Aliya Moldagulova was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of Lenin. She was buried in the Novosokolniki District of Pskov Region.

Description of the monument: The memorial complex was erected in 2005 to mark the 80th anniversary of Aliya Moldagulova’s birth. It occupies an open area of about 830 square metres. In the western part of the complex there are two semi-spherical bas-reliefs depicting the historical path of the Kazakh people. The bas-relief is 2 metres high and 13.8 metres long. The bronze sculpture is 3.5 metres high, while the granite-clad pedestal is 2.43 metres high. Bronze images of a soldier’s bag and helmet placed on the stylobate emphasize the military fate of the heroine.

Located in the central part of Aktobe, the complex serves as a visible space of remembrance, patriotic education and respect for the heroic past.
