Historical background

Shamshi Kaldayakov was an outstanding representative of Kazakh musical culture, a renowned master of the song genre, one of the composers who made a major contribution to the formation of modern Kazakh popular music, and a People’s Artist of Kazakhstan. He was born on 15 August 1930 in the area of present-day Otyrar District of Turkistan Region, near Shaulder.

After finishing school, Shamshi Kaldayakov studied at a veterinary technical college in Saryagash. One stage of his early working life was connected with the Aktobe region: as a young man, he worked in Aktobe for several months. This fact is regarded as an important local detail linking the composer’s biography with the city.

Shamshi Kaldayakov introduced a new direction into Kazakh song culture by skilfully combining national melody with modern musical forms. His song “Menin Qazaqstanym” later became the basis of the State Anthem of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Through this, the composer’s work gained a special place in the history of national spirit and civic identity.

Opening of the monument

The monument to Shamshi Kaldayakov was solemnly opened on 15 October 2021 in Lovers’ Alley in Aktobe. It was installed with the support of the Akimat of Aktobe Region as part of the Republican Forum “Adebiet. Rukh. Qogam”.

The opening ceremony was attended by regional officials, representatives of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan, cultural and literary figures, relatives of the composer, forum participants and residents of the city. The event became an important cultural tribute to the creative legacy of Shamshi Kaldayakov, who became a symbol of Kazakh song.
